Once you download the desktop application it will appear both as a "shortcut" on your desktop and as an icon on the menu bar at the bottom-right of your screen. The desktop shortcut does not actually open the application, it really just proves the completed download.
However, you can open the app from the task bar Zipwhip icon (lower right-hand side of screen). If you don't initially see the icon on the bottom right hand corner of the task bar, you can expand your options by clicking the notification area icon (a small upward facing arrow).
Select customize, then find the the Zipwhip "Z" icon, also called "Java (TM) Platform SE Binary." In the behaviors tab, enable the system to show both the icon and notifications.
Now you should have the Zipwhip "Z" icon in the notifications area of your system tray in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. If you're seeing a red circle on the icon, it means you're logged out. Simply click the icon and log back into the system.
The desktop application will notify you when you have received a new message. No need to be in the web app or even in a web browser to get a notification that you have a new text. You can reply to the text via the pop up bubble, or log in to the web or mobile for Zipwhip's full functionality.
